Oh. What a Morning.

I'm exhausted. Gavin is finally FINALLY down for a nap. Hopefully a good long one too. I really should be napping as well, but this is something I have to write down.
Gavin woke up at 6:15am this morning, an hour and a half before he usually does. He did stay in his room until about 7, but I could here him playing and neither of us went back to sleep. He started crying. We had breakfast. He started crying. I tried to read to him. He started screaming. I asked him if he wanted to go to the park and finally got a happy "yes." We went to the park. After 10 minutes he was at the top of the slide, I told him he should try to go down the slide by himself. He started crying. I said ok, here let me help you. He cried louder. We went home.
The activity that should have taken an hour lasted about 12 minutes.
So then I ask, how about a bath? Another enthusiastic "yes." Again, another activity that should have lasted an hour lasted about 8 minutes, and he was done. He did get super excited when I let him sit on the potty for a minute, he likes to try every now and then.
That was cute.
I proceed to get him dressed. He starts crying. He then brings a book over to me and I start reading. Half way through he hits it, throws it and....starts crying. He then asks for a show. I give him an enthusiastic YES because I need a break. He lasts for about a minute, yes, one single minute before he starts (can you guess??)
crying.
By this time I am beyond frustrated. I ask him, quite sternly, what he could possibly want?? I think it startled him to hear me talk that way because he stopped, looked at me and said "dance."
Ok
His dancing involves him jumping on our bed while his favorite song plays in the background. It is pretty cute, but at this point he is basically the least cute he's ever been. So, when he's busy doing this, I do at least get to lay down on the edge of the bed and relax for a moment.
When the song ends, he's still jumping and I am quietly contemplating (and seriously doubting) the idea of us EVER having another child.
And then he did something that simply changed it all.
He lays down facing me and starts to talk.
He asked me about the blanket that Mama (Gibb) made.
He tells me the colors of our "bwanket" - blue, red and lellow.
He tells about the cookies Mama (Black) made. He tells me that they were "good" and "fun kikis"
He asks about Pompa's (Gibb) bike.
He talks about watching trains that have lights with Pompa Bwack.
He tells about the beans that daddy made for dinner.
He asks about his cousin Mike and how he cried when he fell.
He talks about his cousins Emily and Megan and how they hold hands when playing ring around the rosies.
He tells about his "coot" cousin baby Ethan, who cried when he was hungry.
He teases me by calling me daddy :-)
It was without a doubt, one of the sweetest moments I've ever had with Gavin. I could listen to and watch him talk all day long. His facial expressions are adorable and he always stops to think before he answers a question. He is so bright and smart and so incredibly charming!
I adore this little boy and I'm so grateful for him. I don't know if he sensed how incredibly upset I was, or if he just decided he wanted to talk, but I do know that it was a blessing. It's a reminder to me of my Heavenly Father's perfect love for me. He knows exactly what I need and when and I am so so so grateful!
Another family picture, it's one of my new favorites :-)

Yes, there are those days, but I'm so glad you both made it to the sunshine. It serves as a reminder to me to stay patient. Had you lost your temper with him, he wouldn't have wanted to talk with you like that. You are a great mother!
