The End of Summer

August was a great month! We celebrated our 6th Anniversary and I can't tell you how fabulous it was. Blair's parents took the kids for the day and we went on a hike.We found a trail that lead to 3 lakes up Big Cottonwood Canyon. The drive up was beautiful, I don't think either of us had ever been up there. The trail head was at Brighton Ski Resort. After sunscreen and bug spray had been applied we began the hike up. And boy was it up. The first at least 1/2 a mile is straight up a ski slope. It was slow going and a little rough but it was soooo worth it. The first lake we came to was Lake Mary.
Here it is from 2 view points.
This lake was incredible. The the cliffs were sheer going straight into the beautiful water. We brought a picnic along and had planned to eat here but some irritating people on the other side of the lake were blasting their music. What a way to ruin nature. We saw a ranger as we were leaving who told us the next lake was right around the corner, but to be sure to get all the way to the third. So off we went. Lake Martha was next and compared to Lake Mary it was a little disappointing. It was still very pretty though and although it was the saddest of the 3 lakes, we did see two moose! It was so cool. Even though they're small in this picture you can see them! We took this from the trail and I like it because it also shows a little of the lake and the surrounding area. The meadows and the wildflowers were so so so beautiful and they were everywhere for the entire hike!
We then continued on to Lake Katherine. There are no words to describe this lake and there are no pictures that do it justice. It was simply breathtaking. The water was clear, the air was clean, and it was so completely silent. We were in awe.
We had our picnic there and spent quite a bit of time just sitting and looking. The whole area was surrounded by wildflowers and greenery. I couldn't have imagined a more beautiful place!
We hiked around up there for a little while and came up on a place that gave us a really good view of the 2 lower lakes. This made the second lake seem so much more pretty!
Nature is so healing for body and mind and it was wonderful to be out in it again. It was an incredible hike!
We got to go to dinner afterwards at Tepanyaki, sooo delicious! And then we headed back to pick up our babies. It was a beautiful day!
Next up was my birthday. I can't believe I'm 25. I feel so old. Blair made us my favorite dinner, chicken bacon and swiss sandwiches - yum! Then we had a cookies and cream ice cream cake for dessert - yum yum! My gift this year was a massage. A professional massage. I hadn't had one in so long, it was such a perfect gift and such a great massage! And to top it off he let me win a game of Ticket to Ride :-) It was such a good day!
The rest of August was pretty chill. We did get to go to St. George over Labor Day weekend with my family and that was a blast! We had to get a new battery for my car on the drive down which was stressful. Blair dropped me and the kids off at Arby's while he made his way down to get a battery. It was quite an evening but eventually we made it safely to the house. Thank goodness! The weekend was full of swimming, games, shopping and movies. It was so fun! We also got to spend a little time at the St. George Temple. It was built by the pioneers and it is magnificent. I love it.
We left Sunday morning and that evening, as well as Monday afternoon, we got to spend with Blair's extended family on his dad's side. Blair's aunts and uncle are some of my favorite people! They are all so sweet and so full of life. They all got to meet Lucy and got to know Gavin a little better which we loved. It was great!
Our summer was awesome and it's still a little strange that it's over. Blair is back in school and our kids are growing much to quickly. It is time for another update so we'll do that soon!
