Gavin Update

Our sweet, handsome little man is growing up!
Where to begin?
Gavin has been 3 for almost a month and as much as we adore this little boy, 3 is already the hardest age by far that we've encountered. The tantrums have started. He no longer listens the first, second, third or fourth time he's told to do something. He's becoming quite manipulative. It's rough. For the last couple of months we were so sure that it was Lucy's arrival that made him act this way and while we're positive that it started it, I think simply being 3 has made it continue. He's very outspoken, opinionated, and way too smart for his own good! While all this is true, he is also very helpful, observant, sweet, and so much fun!
Gavin loves to read! While this has always been a fact, it seems like just the last couple of weeks it has really taken off.
This is Blair's school book. Gavin accidentally started eating without getting one of his books and Blair's school book was already on the table. Might as well look through it :-)
I think a lot of it has to do with actually having new books to read. His Aunts have sent him several new books for his birthday and he has just loved them! He has "Where's Spot?" and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" completely memorized and has almost all of "The Little Engine that Could" memorized as well. It's gotten him more interested in his old books too which is fun for him.
Gavin has become a fantastic speller. He is almost constantly asking us how to spell words, or spelling the words he knows for us. When he can't spell something, the conversation usually goes like this:
Gavin: "Mommy, can you spell table?"
Me: "T A B L E."
Gavin: "Actually mom it's, T A QQPOLLTURSVWMNEEOOOOOPOOOOO. That's a lot a O's!"
It's adorable.
The words he can spell are as follows:
Daddy
Mommy
Gavin
Lucy
Gibb
Grandma
Grandpa
Dog
Cat
Tree
Home
Car
Letter
Book
One
Two
Ten
He really just amazes us!
He's slowly learning to write too. He was SO proud to have been able to draw a 2 and a 3 -

He loves to count as well. He'll count to 100 and beyond. He always tells me how many blueberries and strawberries I should use in my smoothie every morning, it's usually 21 or 1000 blueberries and 9 strawberries, silly boy.
He LOVES to fix things! He is constantly walking around with his screwdriver fixing the door, the TV, Lucy's carseat, and sometimes just Lucy. He's almost stuck it into the outlets a few times, thank goodness we've caught him! He loves his trucks and loves anything to do outside. He is immensely proud of himself for going down the big twisty slide at the playground all by himself. We are so proud of him too!
We are so pleased to say that he now loves Lucy! Some of my favorite things he says to her when we get her up in the morning are -
"Good morning sweetheart! Did you wake up?"
"You found Lucy mom! Did she wake up?'
"Lucy's crying daddy, you better go get her. She needs a bum change!"
He is always so happy to see her and is actually starting to play with her, yay! We have to watch him pretty carefully now because he can get a little rough with her, but I cannot tell you how happy I am that he's paying good attention to her now. She loves him! She loves watching him play and has actually started to fuss when he leaves the room. I love it so much. It helps me believe that someday they really will be friends!
It's hard to get a much better picture than this these days, we love these two!
He loves to help me bake and to help us both make dinner. It is so fun!
He loves to build "towas" and is always so proud!
He is so full of life, personality, and lots and lots of silliness -
We are now in the process of potty training, lovely. We are on day 4 right now and have been so proud of Gavin, he's really trying and he's doing great. I'll be happy to write more on that when he's fully trained and I'm not almost more stressed out than I can handle. It's fun.
We love this boy so much!
