Lucy Update

On February 21st, 2015 our beautiful baby girl turned one! I can't believe (more than) a year has passed by since we brought her home from the hospital.
She is sweet and silly and so beautiful. We are so blessed to have her in our family!
Her first birthday was so much fun! Lucy loves the water so we decided that swimming would be a great way to celebrate. On Saturday we took her to a very kid friendly indoor pool and both Gavin and Lucy were in heaven!

On Sunday she got to wear her new birthday dress to church
And that night we got to celebrate with Grandmas and Grandpas, Aunt Joy and Uncle Kyle. She loved opening presents and of course Gavin helped!

And even though her cupcakes were so adorably decorated by daddy, she was not happy about eating them! I don't know what it is with our babies, I guess first birthdays are a very emotional time for them.

The month after she turned one was really awful. With the way the lighting is in our pictures of her you can't really tell that her face is covered in eczema, poor girl. It was all over her face and her body and nothing we tried was helping. On top of that, we found out in the beginning of March that she had a double ear infection and a burst ear drum. We started the antibiotics and her reaction was horrible, but the Dr assured us that it wasn't an allergic reaction. Whatever. She was beyond miserable for the 10 days she was on it. We ended up taking her to the InstaCare because for a full day she didn't eat a single thing and she was hardly drinking. That Dr ended up irrigating her ear canal and found that they were healing nicely and told us to keep giving her the antibiotic. We continued to and it ended up giving her a really bad yeast infection. Our poor sweet girl was just put through the ringer. When the 10 days were finally up, her poor bottom finally had a chance to heal and she did improve a little. But a couple of weeks later she had another double ear infection. It was so bad. They gave us a new antibiotic but this time we were better prepared. Her reaction wasn't even as bad as with the first one and we prevented an yeast infection before it started. After those 10 days I felt like she was truly better. We also finally got her eczema under control and she is now a much happier baby. She still scratches at her ears quite a bit and it makes them bleed. Not sure what to do about that yet but for now, we're just grateful she's not sick!
She is sleeping through the night like a champ right now. It is amazing! She goes to sleep around 8 or a little before and sleeps until we wake her up at 9:45. She is so good! Her naps have become a little shorter but it's been ok. She wakes up around 2:30 in the afternoon and when Gavin hears her he takes a pile of toys and goes in to play with her. It is the sweetest thing! She adores her big brother, and when conditions are right, they play together so well!
Lucy started walking about 2 weeks before her birthday and it is seriously the cutest thing ever. Our girl will not be left behind! Her eating is steadily getting worse and I think it's because of her being sick for so long. She will not try something new to save her life and every meal time is a struggle. I don't know how to get her back to loving to eat and it is so frustrating. Her favorite meal is pasta and she does really well with chicken and rice, but that's about it. It's just Gavin and his eating problems all over again - I guess we can't escape it. It is a good thing that she is so adorable!
Lucy is a social butterfly! Her favorite word right now is "Hi!" and she says it to everyone whether they're paying attention or not. She loves attention from anyone and she absolutely knows when she's looking particularly cute! She walks around with her little belly leading the way, she is so happy! She loves shoes and dresses, necklaces, and bracelets. It is so fun! Her other words are mommy, daddy, was dat? oohs dat? (what's that and who's that), and uh-huh  (a very enthusiastic yes)!. She makes lion sounds for lions and monkey sounds for every other animal. She loves to see birds, dogs and cats and makes her ooh-ooh noises for all of them. She can show us her nose and her ears. Lucy loves to bring us her teddy and bear and her doll and have us hug them. One of my most favorite things right now is how she acts when Blair calls. When she hears the phone ringing she immediately starts to say "hi daddy hi daddy!" but then goes silent when we actually answer. She always tries to give him a kiss through the phone and then waves goodbye at the end, it is so sweet! She loves her daddy so much!
Lucy has such a sweet spirit and such a fun personality, but when she gets upset she will let you know. She throws things, she bites, she hits, and she scratches. We didn't really experience this with Gavin and I feel like we're at a loss at what to do. Nothing in the form of punishment has helped her stop (like time-outs). We still try though, maybe someday it will click that she's in trouble when she does these things.
Lucy loves to be teased! She thinks it is the funniest thing when start to give her something and then pull it away. It is so funny, but she's started to do it to other babies. She is so sweet to share in Church with the other babies her age. She'll get a piece of cracker and start to give it to them, then she pulls it away. I guess she's learning by example, haha!
Lucy loves to be chased around the house and she has started to "run". It is so cute! Her little legs don't move her as fast as she would like, but she really tries! We love this baby girl so much, she makes us so happy! And now, here is an overload of pictures..
Bath time is the greatest time!
At any given moment she can be the happiest baby or the saddest!
The dishwasher is too much fun folks.
So are the pots and pans..
Lucy can make messes with the best of them. They follow her wherever she goes!
These are what she gets when we forget jammies at Grandma's house. Boys 4T jammies and very confused baby girl!
Just taking a rest from it all..
But the best rests are still with Daddy!
Lucy LOVES to dance right now! No matter where we are or what kind of music it is she does a little dance. Last Sunday she grooved out to the Sacrament hymn during church, haha!
Oh how we love her sweet laugh!
We have our struggles with this baby girl but we love her more and more each day. She definitely has a strong, independent personality and always has an opinion to express. We are so blessed that she is ours! We love our Miss Lucy!
